Chatter: mileage averaged 11.31 mpg
Hello
We are returned from 22 days (and 5000 miles) in our new Born Free. It was a fabulous trip out to the California Redwoods and many points in between. We encountered (at Mount Lassen Volcanic National Park) snow plowed to twice the height of our towed vehicle and had the misfortune to be snowed out of Crater lake, but had NO problems with the Born Free whatsoever. Thanks SO MUCH for the advice about staying out of overdrive in the mountains! Our mileage averaged 11.31 mpg with a range of 10-13 mpg and (as you might imagine) included much mountain driving. As indicated above, we were towing a car. The best mileage occurred along the straight and flat Columbia River Gorge interstate highway. We drove about 25 mph around impossible curves in the coastal ridges (of FOGGY and rainy) Northern California and 55-60 mph on the more easily navigated interstates. We were very impressed with the ‘lugging’ performance of the new diesel motor along the longer upgrades.
Fantastic fan is indeed fantastic and was used extensively. We are actually approaching the ability to utilize its automatic functions! We were particularly pleased with the ‘boondocking’ abilities of the coach and spent about 2/3 of our time dry camping, something we did not do much of with our prior motorhome. We continue to be amazed at the storage capacity of our new little house! It was a very comfortable trip
Thanks also for the information that helped us obtain repairs on our umbilical. It was late Friday afternoon, but we did find a wonderful service facility that was able to help us.
Only one of the many folks who gawked at our coach approached us for a tour. He is an individual who delivers motorhomes as an occupation; he had heard of Born Free but had never actually seen one and he was VERY IMPRESSED, especially with the cabinetry. We are hereby logging in our request to share the commission on his sale! J We saw 2 other Born Free units on the trip. One near Newport, OR and the other, a ‘Built for Two,’ near Medora, ND.
Thanks again for everything and we hope to see all of you in Eureka Springs and Branson!
